<p><strong>Introduction:</strong> Introduced in Agilent ICP-MS MassHunter version 4.6, IntelliQuant for ICP-MS provides an automated semiquantitative analysis for every sample. Calibration and background correction are automatically made with no user intervention,  and data is presented in an easily understood periodic table heat map format and a comprehensive data table.</p>
<p>IntelliQuant is possible because a QuickScan can be performed when measuring each sample. The optional two second QuickScan acquires a complete mass spectrum of the entire measurable mass range, facilitating semiquantitative and Total Matrix Solids (TMS) calculations of every sample.</p>
<p>TMS levels are calculated from the IntelliQuant data. Similar to Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), TMS is the sum of the key matrix elements in each sample. Included in the TMS calculation are the elements typically considered to contribute to matrix effects, such as ionization suppression and matrix deposition on interface cones and lenses. Gas elements, including elements in acids such as HCl and HNO₃ , do not cause appreciable matrix effects in ICP-MS, so they are excluded from the calculation.</p>

<p><strong>Introduction:</strong> Synthetic oligonucleotides are short chains (oligomers) of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) or ribonucleic acid (RNA) molecules. They are used in applications such as polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests, DNA sequencing and novel therapeutic products.</p>
<p>The synthesis of oligonucleotides involves a four-step cyclic process followed by multi-step downstream purification. This manufacturing process as well as environment, packaging, and container closure systems can be potential sources of contamination leading to inorganic impurities formation.</p>
<p>To control and monitor product safety, permitted daily exposure (PDE) limits of 24 elements are defined in ICH guideline Q3D(R2)1 and USP chapter &lt;232&gt;2 . ICH Q2(R1)3 and USP&lt;233&gt; 4 describe analytical measurement requirements and procedures for the measurement of those elemental impurities. Although oligonucleotide products have not been included in those regulatory guidelines yet, the industry common practice is to follow those guidelines.</p>
<p>In this study, an analytical workflow (Figure1) was developed in accordance with the ICH/USP guidelines for the analysis of elemental impurities in an oligonucleotide sample using an Agilent 7850 ICP-MS. Data was acquired to evaluate the accuracy, specificity, reproducibility, and ruggedness of the method.</p>
<p><strong>Conclusions:</strong> The study has demonstrated the suitability of the Agilent 7850 ICP-MS for the identification and quantification of 24 elements in a synthetic oligonucleotide sample in compliance with existing USP and ICH guidelines. Instrument and method performance requirements for stability, detectability, precision, specificity, ruggedness, accuracy, and spike recovery were all achieved per the criteria given in USP &lt;232&gt;/&lt;233&gt; and ICH Q3D(R2)/Q2(R1).</p>
<p>As the development and use of oligonucleotides in therapeutic applications continue to advance, the elemental impurities analysis of oligonucleotides using 7850 ICP-MS can safeguard the product quality and safety.</p>

<p><strong>Introduction:</strong> A culture medium usually contains elements spanning a wide range of concentrations, from trace (Co, Cu, Se, etc.) to several thousand ppm (Na). Elementsin the medium are important in cell cultures because they are taken up by the cells and contribute to enzyme activity and redox reactions. On the other hand, it has been pointed out that unexpected contamination from raw materials and equipment in the culture media manufacturing process may cause differences in element concentrations among batches. Therefore, it is important to know the element concentration profiles in the culture medium to achieve a homogeneous cell culture. </p>
<p>ICP-MS issuitable for this purpose because it can analyze multiple elements with high sensitivity and has a wide dynamic range. In this Application News, an ICPMS-2050 was used to analyze both trace and high-concentration elements in a culture medium by dilution-only pretreatment. Furthermore, the spike recovery and long-term stability in the culture medium were evaluated using the ICPMS-2050 to confirm that there was no effect on the analytical value due to dilution-only pretreatment.</p>
<p><strong>Summary:</strong> In this Application News, the ICPMS-2050 was used to analyze trace and high-concentration elements in a culture medium using dilution-only pretreatment. Good spike recoveries were obtained for all the measured elements, verifying that the culture medium can be accurately analyzed with dilution-only pretreatment. In addition, the results of CCV and internal standard recoveries showed good long-term stability.</p>

<p><strong>Goal:</strong> To demonstrate the analysis of process water from hydrogen fuel cells for inorganic trace contaminants with high sensitivity and accuracy using triple quadrupole ICP-MS</p>
<p><strong>Conclusions:</strong> The iCAP TQe ICP-MS was employed to analyze 53 elements including fluorine in process water derived from hydrogen fuel cells. Among the analytes, several critical interferences can cause unexpected bias, and these were investigated closely for effective and complete removal by means of selective collision / reaction cell reactions with oxygen. This study also included the development of a method for the analysis of fluorine, generally only possible in an indirect measurement. This analytical method was rigorously tested, and the results obtained clearly demonstrate the fowling analytical advantages:</p>
<ul>
<li>The iCAP TQe ICP-MS operated in TQ-O2 and He KED modes allowed the analysis of 53 elements in relevant sample matrices over a wide concentration range. For minor elements, the method was tested over 4 orders of magnitude (from 0.01 to 100 µg·L-1), whereas major elements were tested between 1 to 100 µg·L⁻¹.</li>
<li>Using a high throughput analysis approach, with a new autosampler equipped with a Step Ahead feature for minimizing total analysis time, all elements relevant for the development of hydrogen fuel cell technology could be measured accurately with low detection limits.</li>
<li>The use of TQ-O₂ mode provided advanced performance for eliminating the polyatomic interferences of phosphorus, sulfur, silver, and cadmium in the simulated hydrogen fuel cell process water. This covered both polyatomic interferences as well as overlaps created by intense signals from isotopes of elements present in high concentrations.</li>
<li>he iCAP TQe ICP-MS offers the flexibility to choose high resolution for the Q1 and Q3 quadrupoles, enabling complete elimination of polyatomic interference and isobaric interferences.</li>
<li>The feasibility of fluorine analysis was demonstrated using an indirect method after complexation with barium. The iCAP TQe ICP-MS showed accurate and precise determination of fluorine as proven by the spike recovery tests performed.</li>
<li>Excellent stability performance was obtained with the iCAP TQe ICP-MS together with excellent CCV and spike recovery results over a 3-hour run without internal standard correction. This provides the advantage of avoiding potential contamination from addition of the internal standard solution.</li>

In the current study, an automated, micro-flow autosampler in combination with an Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS) is used in the elemental analysis of nanoparticles and yeast cells. The sample introduction system is designed to deliver intact single cells or cell clusters to the plasma, while the ICP-MS offers high sensitivity for elemental determination within the cell or cell cluster. The elementsthat should be considered in risk assessments differ, depending on the administration route of the drug product. For oral preparations, only seven elements of Class 1 and 2A should be considered, except for the intentional addition of elements such as catalyst utilization during synthesis. However, the origins of contamination by elemental impurities are diverse, including not only the components of the drug substance and additives, but also manufacturing equipment and implements. Therefore, a screening analysis was carried out for all 24 elements, considering potential elemental impurities. In addition, when internal standard correction is to be used, as in a related article a, the content of candidate internal standard elements in the specimens must be verified in advance. In this article, a simple concentration analysis of the 24 elements in a drug product as elemental impurities was carried out using the preset method for screening analysis of drug products, which is included in the ICPMS-2040/2050 (Fig. 1). The concentration of the elements used in internal standard correction in the drug was also measured, and it was found that the elements can be used in correction.</p><p><strong>Conclusion:</strong> In this article, a simultaneous screening analysis of 24 elemental impurity elements in an oral drug product and candidate elements for internal standard correction was carried out using an ICPMS-2040/2050. Polyester is the best choice for water-resistant, durable apparel, while cotton is better suited for breathable, cool summer clothing. Textile products must be labeled according to their fiber composition. The procedures for the determination of fiber composition include mechanical, chemical, and microscopic methods—all of which are time consuming. In contrast, nearinfrared spectroscopy (NIRS) is a fast and chemicalfree alternative. This Application Note shows how NIR spectroscopy can be used to determine the cotton content in textile products within 30 seconds.</p><p><strong>CONCLUSION</strong></p><p>&nbsp;This Application Note demonstrates the feasibility of NIR spectroscopy to determine the cotton percentage in textile blends quickly and easily. Vis-NIR spectroscopy offers users a fast, cost-effective, and highly accurate alternative to other standard testing methods.</p><p>Additionally, NIRS analysis is non-destructive, completely reagent-free, and gives results in only 30 seconds.</p>

Agilent Technologies: </strong><style type="text/css"></style><a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://icpms.labrulez.com/labrulez-bucket-strapi-h3hsga3/an_v_groove_nebulizer_5994_7788en_agilent_4ae77b4b3a.pdf"><strong>Reducing Instrument Downtime in Elemental Analysis of Lubricant Oils as per ASTM 5185</strong></a></h4><ul><li>Application</li></ul><h5><strong>Run samples faster and for longer using the V-groove nebulizer</strong></h5><p><strong>Abstract</strong></p><p>In this application note, lubricant oil samples were analyzed using an Agilent 5900 Synchronous Vertical Dual View (SVDV) inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometer (ICP-OES) coupled with an Agilent Advanced Valve System 6 (AVS 6) and the Agilent V-groove nebulizer to enable the rapid analysis of over 1,000 samples in 6 hours (more than 160 samples per hour). The V-groove nebulizer provides exceptional performance characteristics, robustness, and durability, even when using troublesome samples. It also provides a reduction in sample loading on the plasma, which reduces carbon formation on the injector of the torch, allowing extended run times, while exceeding the sensitivity requirements required for the ASTM D5185-18 standard method.</p><p><strong>Introduction</strong></p><p>Elemental analysis of lubricant and hydraulic oils is essential for predictive and preventive maintenance, as well as trend analysis in many heavy industries. The ASTM D5185‑18 standard method1 is the gold standard in tribology laboratories globally to quantify additive elements, wear metals, and contaminants. This method uses ICP-OES for the rapid elemental determination of 22 elements in both used and unused lubricating and base oils, providing quick screening of used oils for signs of wear.</p><p>Tribology laboratories typically process hundreds of samples daily; therefore, they are constantly searching for ways to enhance efficiency and improve sample throughput. Instrument downtime caused by blockages in the sample introduction system (SIS) can be a common problem in these high-throughput labs. These blockages are typically caused by suspended particles in the samples blocking the nebulizer, and carbon deposits blocking the injector of the torch. Although various methods exist to remove the blockage from the nebulizer and clean the torch, all require extinguishing the plasma to remove and clean the SIS.</p><p>The use of a robust nebulizer is a strategy that can enable tribology laboratories to run more samples with reduced blockage. This will improve their workflows and increase sample throughput, reducing both instrument downtime and their running costs. One example of a robust nebulizer that helps to overcome the blockage issues is the inert, high-total-dissolved-solids (high-TDS) Agilent V-groove nebulizer, which is capable of aspirating highly dissolved solids and slurries (up to 30% dissolved solids with a maximum particle size of 350 μm). Its inert construction also ensures that any solvent can be nebulized.</p><p>In this application note, used diesel engine lubricant oil samples were analyzed using the 5900 SVDV ICP-OES coupled with the AVS 6 and the V-groove nebulizer, following the ASTM D5185-18 standard method.&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Conclusion</strong></p><p>This application note shows the suitability of the Agilent 5900 SVDV ICP-OES used with the Agilent AVS 6 and inert V-groove nebulizer for rapid multi-element analysis of used lubricant oil samples using the ASTM D5185-18 standard method.</p><p>Excellent long-term stability was demonstrated when more than 1,000 samples were analyzed over a six-hour period (22 to 23 seconds per sample). All measurements of this spiked oil sample were within ± 10% of the expected value, with precision better than 5% RSD in most cases. The spike recovery study showed how the 5900 ICP-OES, used with the inert V-groove nebulizer, can accurately detect low range concentrations of wear metals and high concentrations of the elements from the additive package in a single analysis. The inert V-groove nebulizer also enabled the samples to be run faster, with excellent accuracy.</p><p>Despite no oxygen injection being used, there were no signs of blockage of the injector of the torch, or carbon deposition after the test. The V-groove nebulizer design reduces sample loading on the plasma, minimizing carbon buildup while maintaining the sensitivity required for the ASTM D5185 standard method. No nebulizer blockage was experienced while collecting the data for this study. The inert V-groove nebulizer allows extended run times by reducing the frequency of torch and nebulizer maintenance. This demonstrates the stability of the 5900 ICP-OES and the suitability of the inert V-groove nebulizer for high-throughput tribology laboratories, by reducing instrument maintenance downtime and improving sample throughput.</p><h4><strong>2. Thermo Fisher Scientific: </strong><style type="text/css"></style><a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://icpms.labrulez.com/labrulez-bucket-strapi-h3hsga3/pn_002807_tea_icp_ms_halogens_wpc_2024_pn002807_en_b235f7ba82.pdf"><strong>WPC: Sensitive and interference free analysis of halogens using triple quadrupole ICP-MS</strong></a></h4><ul><li>Poster / WPC</li></ul><p><strong>ABSTRACT</strong></p><p>The analysis of halogens is important in many different industries, such as environmental monitoring, pharmaceutical, oil and gas, but also Li-ion battery and renewable fuels. Halogen analysis is commonly carried out using ion chromatography (IC), whereas argon plasma-based techniques like ICP-MS are less common, due to poor sensitivitiy, and potential spectral interferences. This study describes a complete analytical workflow using the Thermo Scientific™ iCAP™ TQe ICP-MS for the accurate and precise quantification of challenging halogen analytes like fluorine, chlorine, and bromine.</p><p><strong>CONCLUSIONS</strong></p><p>This work highlights how triple quadrupole ICP-MS systems, such as the iCAP TQe ICP-MS, operated in TQ-O 2 mode can be used for accurate and precise quantification of challenging analytes such as halogens.</p><ul><li>It could be shown that chlorine and bromine can be analyzed directly using optimized instrument conditions.</li><li>It further highlights the feasibility of iCAP TQe ICP-MS for indirect but accurate and precise determination of fluorine by following approach of complex formation with barium under optimized and controlled conditions</li><li>The analytical data and observations made during this study strongly suggest that iCAP TQe ICP-MS equipped with dedicated mass flow controllers (MFCs) for introduction of pure oxygen and pure helium as cell gases is a powerful tool to accomplish the otherwise challenging analysis of halogens.</li><li>Upcoming studies will focus on the application of the fluorine measurements in hyphenated techniques, such as liquid chromatography hyphenated to ICP-MS to assess the potential for emerging contaminant screening, i.e. of PFAS</li></ul><h4><strong>3. Shimadzu: </strong><style type="text/css"></style><a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://icpms.labrulez.com/labrulez-bucket-strapi-h3hsga3/an_01_00772_en_4935e06938.pdf"><strong>Analysis of Elemental Impurities in Anode Materials for Lithium-Ion Secondary Batteries Using the ICPE- 9820</strong></a></h4><ul><li>Application</li></ul><p><strong>User Benefits</strong></p><ul><li>Elemental impurities in the anode materials of lithium-ion secondary batteries can be measured.</li><li>Even after measurement, elements and wavelengths can be added to check for unexpected elemental impurities in the anode materials.</li><li>The system uses a mini torch that consumes less argon gas, thus reducing running costs.</li></ul><p><strong>Introduction</strong></p><p>Lithium-ion secondary batteries (LIBs) are widely used in mobile devices, electric vehicles, hybrid cars, and more. One of the components of LIBs, the anode, accumulates and releases Li ions during charging and discharging. Graphite-based materials are mainly used as the anode material in LIBs. In China, one of the major producers, the analysis of elemental impurities in graphite, which is used as LIB anode material, is required by GB/T 24533-20191) using inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES).</p><p>In this Application News, elemental impurities in LIB anode materials were analyzed using the ICPE-9820. Spike recovery tests were performed to confirm the validity of the analytical values. Additionally, the “Acquisition for All Wavelength” feature allows for checking the presence of elemental impurities that were not subjected to quantitative analysis.</p><p><strong>Conclusion</strong></p><p>In this Application News, an analysis of elemental impurities in LIB anode materials was performed using the ICPE-9820. Good spike recoveries were obtained, confirming the accuracy of the analysis. Additionally, elements and wavelengths were added after the measurement to identify elemental impurities other than the analyzed elements present in the anode materials.</p><h4><strong>4. Metrohm: </strong><style type="text/css"></style><a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://icpms.labrulez.com/labrulez-bucket-strapi-h3hsga3/an_pan_1064_download_39b556efd8.pdf"><strong>Monitoring complexing agents in galvanic baths inline with Raman spectroscopy</strong></a></h4><ul><li>Application</li></ul><p><strong>The main purposes of galvanic process baths include the surface refinement of workpieces and the setting of physical properties. To this end, bath additives (e.g., organic compounds or complexing agents) are regularly added in different amounts, depending on the processing load. Since the bath composition changes continuously due to the introduction of the workpieces, close monitoring of the concentration of the bath additives is necessary to ensure that the end product quality is at the highest level.</strong></p><p>This Process Application Note presents a method to accurately analyze complexing agents inline in galvanic baths with a 2060 Raman Analyzer from Metrohm Process Analytics. This enables real-time bath control and thus an increase in production efficiency and product quality.</p><p><strong>CONCLUSION</strong></p><p>Raman spectroscopy is an easy-to-use analytical technique that identifies liquids and solids within seconds.
