<p>The Faculty of Science was established in 1920 as the fifth faculty of Charles University. Bachelor courses are introductions to deeper studies that follow on in the master’s programs. Master’s study programs train experts for scientific and research institutes, government careers, industry and the private sector. Graduates of the master’s courses with the teacher training element are qualified to teach in secondary schools and secondary vocational schools. SSJMM: ESAS (European Symposium on Analytical Spectrometry)

<h4><strong>European Symposium on Analytical Spectrometry (ESAS) and the 17th Czech-Slovak Spectroscopic Conference (CSSC)</strong></h4>
<p>is the international joint scientific meeting to share recent developments, exchange ideas, explore new directions and initiate a possible collaboration in the analytical spectrometry area. Leading scientists and researchers will be invited to present their most up-to-date results at this conference, to exchange exciting ideas and experiences as well as look into future development. The aim of <strong>this joint meeting</strong> is to bring together experts from universities, academia, official centers, various laboratories, and industry on a world-wide scale, to summarize the current progress in various areas of spectroscopy and the trends in the applications such as chemical, environmental, geological, biological, food, pharmaceutical and industrial materials and to stimulate contacts and mutual exchange of experiences and ideas.</p>
<p>In the last few years, atomic spectrometry methods have become part of complex analytical tools that go beyond the traditional concept of elemental analysis. This trend has been triggered in recent decades by speciation analysis, based on a combination of separation methods and spectrometric detection systems. It is now becoming common to combine several spectrometric and microscopic methods for imaging purposes such as multimodal imaging. Thus, it is practically impossible to develop, apply and describe one method in isolation, without reference to other information of molecular spectrometry methods, be it mass spectrometry, fluorescence microscopy, Raman spectroscopy and others. From this point of view, it still makes no sense to define the spectroscopic conference as a symposium of atomic spectrometry. That is why we changed <strong>the European Symposium on Atomic Spectrometry to the European Symposium on Analytical Spectrometry</strong> this year. The organizers believe that the ESAS conceived in this way is both compatible with the Czech-Slovak Spectroscopic Conference and will expand the possibilities of participation of spectroscopists who deal with both atomic and molecular spectrometry methods and their combination.</p>

<p><strong>European Symposium on Atomic Spectrometry (ESAS)</strong> was launched in September 2008 in Weimar, Germany, by merging two important scientific events with a long tradition in the field of atomic spectrometry, namely:</p>

<p><strong>The 17th Czech - Slovak Spectroscopic Conference (17th CSSC)</strong> is a proceeding based on a long-term scientific cooperation between Ioannes Marcus Marci Spectroscopic Society and The Slovak Spectroscopic Society. The meetings organized by the former Czechoslovak spectroscopic society (1949 – 1993) in the past and the continuation in the tradition of the national Slovak and Czech spectroscopic conferences now, since 2008, exist as a joint event.</p>

Česká konference hmotnostní spektrometrie (ČSHS)

<p><strong>Over the years, the conference took place in Hradec Králové (4×), Prague (3×), Olomouc (2×) and České Budějovice (1×). The invited speakers included leading figures of mass spectrometry such as Günter Allmaier, Frank Tureček, Dieter Gerlich, Miloš Novotný, James Bruce, Renato Zenobi, Michael Przybylski, Kevin Schug, Andrea Sinz, Helmut Schwarz, Magnus Palmblad, David Goodlett, Aleš Svatoš, Zdeněk Lánský, Karel Lemr, Michal Holčapek and Vladimír Havlíček.</strong></p>
<p>Since the very beginning, the Czech mass spectrometry conference put a lot of emphasis on the active participation of <strong>graduate students</strong> and <strong>postdocs</strong>. The conference is a unique opportunity for <strong>young mass spectrometry scientists</strong> from Czechia and Slovakia to present at a local event, but in an international format and in front of wider Central European audience.</p>
<p>In 2022, <strong>the 10th Czech mass spectrometry conference</strong> is co-organized together with <strong>the 16th Central and Eastern European Proteomic Conference</strong>. The joint meeting gives our modest scientific event broader international exposure and diverse European attendance. We trust that the next ten years will bring even more development and expansion and that <strong>the conference will establish itself as regional meeting in the field</strong>.</p>

Czech Mass Spectrometry Conferences (CSMS)

The relatively new tradition of the Czech mass spectrometry conferences was established only in 2011, the very first event took place in Hradec Králové. Since then, the conference was organized every year except for 2020, the year of the pandemic.

<h3><strong>Introduction</strong></h3>
<p><strong>The Department of Organic Chemistry within the Chemistry Section of the Faculty of Science of Charles University is engaged in teaching and scientific research in the fields of synthetic organic chemistry focused on catalysis, bioorganic and medicinal chemistry, materials chemistry and electrochemistry.</strong></p>

<p><strong>Organic chemistry is a fundamental chemical discipline</strong> that permeates many scientific areas. After graduating in organic chemistry, you can find <strong>employment in classical industrial chemistry and the pharmaceutical industry</strong>. You will also be prepared to work in analytical laboratories.</p>

<p>While <strong>studying</strong> in our department <strong>you will learn the basics of organic synthesis</strong>, which is an important skill for any chemist and hard to catch up on during further study or practice. Even if you change majors in the future, basic synthetic experience is important for a general overview and perspective of chemistry. </p>
<p>In addition to synthesis and its application to various fields of organic chemistry (catalysis, organocatalysis, bioorganic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, materials synthesis, synthetic electrochemistry), we offer a focus toward interdisciplinary collaboration, where you can learn some of the most important analytical methods - gas and liquid chromatography, nuclear magnetic resonance, and mass spectrometry - as you investigate new organic reactions.</p>

<p>The Department of Organic Chemistry of the Faculty of Science of the Charles University is involved in teaching in three types of study programmes, both in the form of full-time and combined. These programmes include a basic bachelor&#39;s programme, a follow-up master&#39;s programme and a doctoral programme.</p>

<p><strong>How did HUPO evolve?</strong></p>
<p>HUPO was launched on February 9, 2001. On that date, a global advisory council was officially formed that included leading global experts in the field of proteomics from the academic, government, and commercial sectors. Over the next 12 months, the council, in consultation with industry, identified major proteomics issues and initiatives that needed to be addressed by HUPO. Since its inception, HUPO has received substantial financial assistance from Genome Quebec, Montreal International, McGill University, the National Institutes of Health, and pharmaceutical companies, among others. In addition, it has benefited from considerable in-kind contributions of time and energy from HUPO Council members, research institutes, and pharmaceutical company partners around the world.</p>
<p>HUPO Initiatives are prominently showcased at each Annual HUPO World Congress, which are held as per a three year rotation in the Americas, Asia/Oceania and Europe. Past congresses have been held in cities such as Versailles, France (2002), Montreal, Canada (2003), Beijing, China (2004), Munich, Germany (2005). Long Beach, USA (2006), Seoul, Korea (2007), Amsterdam, The Netherlands (2008) and Toronto, Canada (2009). The number of participants and exhibitors has significantly increased over the years and the Congresses are a must attend for anyone involved in proteomics.</p>

15th European Pesticide Residue Workshop (EPRW 2024)

<p><strong>The European Pesticide Residue Workshop (EPRW) is the premier European meeting for the presentation and discussion of the latest concepts and developments in the field of pesticide residues in food and beverages.&nbsp;</strong></p><p>Established in 1996 in The Netherlands, EPRW has been held every two years in various European locations, evolving into a key platform for exchanging knowledge and expertise. Its main objective is to bring together analytical chemists, quality managers, pesticide regulators, and other scientists to discuss advancements in pesticide residue analysis and food safety standards​.</p><h4><strong>Scientific and Industry Collaboration:</strong></h4><p>EPRW is an essential forum for fostering collaboration between academia, industry, and regulatory authorities. Attendees benefit from comprehensive scientific programs that include plenary lectures, oral presentations, poster sessions, and in-depth discussions on trending topics. The research projects are mainly focused on food and feed quality, authenticity & safety related issues; investigations concerned with the impact of environmental conditions on the human food chain are also included.

<p><strong>Eurachem is a network of organisations in Europe, having the objective of establishing a system for the international traceability of chemical measurements and the promotion of good quality practices. It provides a forum for the discussion of common problems and for developing an informed and considered approach to both technical and policy issues.</strong></p><p>Full membership of Eurachem is open to countries within the European Union and the European Free Trade Association, the European Commission, European countries recognised by the EU and EFTA as accession states, and European countries having an Association Agreement with the European Union. Other European countries and organisations with an interest in quality of analytical measurements may participate in Eurachem as Associate or Observer members. Eurachem currently has 36 members.</p><p>Eurachem promotes best practice in analytical measurement by producing authoritative guidance within its expert working groups, publishing guides on the web and supporting workshops &nbsp;to communicate good practice. Guidance covers technical issues such as measurement uncertainty evaluation, method validation and proficiency testing.</p><p>Eurachem also works through liaisons with accreditation bodies and other organisations with interests in measurement quality to help ensure practical accreditation policies and promote sensible technical provisions in regulation.</p><p>Eurachem's technical activity is carried out by its various Working Groups. This individual will be responsible for following all safety and quality guidelines while maintaining a satisfactory production level.&nbsp; The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.</p><h4><strong>About you:</strong></h4><ul><li>Ensure that all tasks are performed within time restraints and according to relevant quality and safety policies and procedures.</li><li>Use results from test method(s) in calculations to further characterize the data (i.e. Calculated Cetane Index, Viscosity Index, etc.).</li><li>Prepare and/or aliquot samples as part of a sample preparation step for all required tests. When applicable load samples on automated instrumentation that has been validated following method quality requirements.</li><li>Perform routine daily and/or weekly verification(s) and/or calibration(s) on equipment and instrumentation following method quality requirements. Some methods will require a minimum Level 3 or 4 based on complexity and quality risk level.</li><li>Perform analysis on samples through direct testing (i.e. wet chemistry). The minimum level required to perform some methods will vary depending on complexity of the method, safety risk level, and quality risk level.</li><li>Perform preventative maintenance on equipment and/or instrumentation as required by the method.
