Anton Paar: Effect of Humidity on Rheology of Polymers

The rheological properties of polymers are significantly influenced by humidity, impacting their mechanical behavior and processability.

This webinar examines the effect of humidity on the viscoelastic and flow characteristics of diverse polymer systems. It details how moisture absorption alters polymer structure, resulting in variations in viscosity, storage and loss moduli, and relaxation dynamics. The session highlights experimental techniques for assessing humidity-induced rheological changes, including dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) and oscillatory rheometry under controlled humidity conditions.

In addition, practical applications will be discussed, emphasizing the role of humidity in polymer-based coatings, adhesives, and 3D printing filaments. The findings aim to contribute to improved material formulation, enhanced quality control, and optimized performance in various industrial sectors.

Presenter: Naimul Hoque, PhD

Mohammed Naimul Hoque is an Advanced Application Engineer – Rheology at Anton Paar USA, specializing in the rheological characterization of complex fluids and colloids. His work involves customer sample testing, collaborating with academic and industrial clients, and providing training on rheological instruments and techniques.

Prior to joining Anton Paar, Naimul earned his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Texas Tech University, where his research focused on modeling the flow behavior of colloidal dispersions and predicting their extrusion behavior using extensional rheological techniques, such as dripping-onto-substrate (DoS) rheometry.
