Agilent Technologies: Method and Application Review of ASTM D5185 for the Analysis of Used and Unused Lubricating and Base Oils by Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometry

The following presentation will focus on the analysis of wear metals in oil using ASTM D5185.

This includes the analysis of 22 analytes including the wear metals and additives in various types of lubricants – mainly new and used engine oils. This presentation will also include ICP setup, standard and sample preparation and analysis recommendations. Oxygen addition will also be discussed as a way to reduce carbon build up and required maintenance.

Presenter: Paul Krampitz (Application Scientist, Agilent Technologies, Inc.)

Paul is a graduate of Bowling Green State University with a Chemistry Bachelor of Science degree. Twenty – five years of Spectroscopy experience mainly Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP) Spectroscopy as well as ICP-MS and AAS. His experience also includes X-Ray Fluorescence (ED, WD), Laser Ablation, Inorganic Speciation and Microwave Plasma Spectroscopy. Market Segment expertise includes environmental, petrochemical, metallurgical applications.
