Laboratory Analyst
About the position:
This position is responsible for production chemistry that maintains high quality and output in the analytical laboratory. Assaying is carried out using established methods and schedules, while ensuring analytical quality as well as the adherence to safe laboratory practices by working in accordance with the ALS Health and Safety Program.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Operate and maintain analytical balances in accordance to ALS procedures.
- Accurately weigh pulp samples within ALS established weight ranges and standardized work instructions.
- Inspect prepared pulp samples for homogeneity.
- Identify suspect samples and report to the Analytical Laboratory Manager.
- Report all quality concerns to the Analytical Laboratory Manager including equipment or sample concerns. Corrects the problem with assistance from the Manager.
- Wash labware using correct lab procedures to prevent contamination of glassware and maintain a good circulation of available glassware.
- Safely dispose of sample solution waste using correct lab procedures.
- Preparation of solutions.
- Organize workload according to turnaround time commitments and daily statistics.
- Assist others, as required to meet workload and turnaround time commitments.
- Complete required documentation including logs and equipment records.
- Maintain a clean, safe and organized work environment by following established safety rules and regulations and ALS best practices.
- Report all safety concerns to the Analytical Laboratory Manager and participate in incident investigations when required.
- Other duties as assigned by the Analytical Laboratory Manager.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Basic computer skills in using software applications required.
- Good hand eye coordination.
- Good listening skills.
- Able to work in team setting to meet strict deadlines.
- Good organizational skills.
- Quality and detail oriented individual.
- Ability to work independently or under supervision.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
Required Qualifications:
- Recognized diploma or degree in Science required; Analytical Chemistry preferred.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to sit and/or stand for up to 8 hours;
- Manual dexterity to perform repetitive tasks.

- An estimated hourly pay of $24.25 CAD at the time of posting. Individual compensation is determined by factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, education and/or training.
