Organic matrices from crude oils, wear metals in transmission oil, upstream, downstream products and fuels, to cooking oils have been analyzed directly on Agilent ICP-MSs.

A little oxygen goes a long way in an argon plasma! Instead of self-aspiration, why aren’t more people using an automated approach for organic matrices, that can allow operator unattended operation of large volumes of samples in these units? Are there pitfalls to an automated approach for organics? How can they be avoided? Set up and optimization of the instrument for automated organic analyses, along with an approach for quick transition back and forth between organic and aqueous mode, will be explored.

Presenter: Dr. Jonathan Talbott (Application Scientist, Atomic Spectroscopy, Agilent Technologies, Inc.)

Jonathan Talbott is an ICP-MS Application Scientist with Agilent Technologies and has over 30 years of experience in atomic spectroscopy, including Atomic Absorption, Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-AES), and Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS). His primary focus the last 18 years has been with ICP-MS, in both applications and technical sales support. His areas of expertise include speciation, clinical applications and 21 CFR 11 compliance for Agilent ICP-OESs and ICP-MSs.
