Agilent Technologies: Unique Measurement Capabilities Using the Praying Mantis and a Cary UV-Vis system

Examining powdered samples in the presence of a reactive gas or at elevated temperatures could be a difficult measurement to make.

During this workshop, we will be looking at how to make such diffuse reflection measurements using a high-end Cary instrument and an accessory from Harrick Scientific known as the Praying Mantis. Tips and tricks of using this accessory will also be discussed.

Presenter: Mark Fisher, PhD (Application Engineer, Molecular Spectroscopy, Agilent Technologies, Inc.)

Mark, an Application Scientist for Agilent Technologies, has over 35 years of experience in molecular spectroscopy. He has held roles in Agilent's UV-Vis-NIR, fluorescence, and atomic absorption product portfolios. In addition to identifying industry trends and new business needs, Mark's responsibilities include application development, pre and post-sales support, as well as acting as a customer advocate for new product and technology opportunities. Mark received his doctorate in analytical chemistry from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Presenter: Sue Berets, PhD (Applications Scientist, Harrick Scientific Products)

Sue, an Applications Chemist for Harrick Scientific Products, has over 30 years of experience in accessories and optics for molecular spectroscopy. Sue received her doctorate in physical chemistry from Tufts University and has carried out basic research in theoretical and applied spectroscopy. Her responsibilities include technical and sales support, including accessing products for specific customer applications. She is involved in new product development, from initial concept to finished product, to meet the every changing applications needs of the market.
