Laboratory Assistant

The Role

ALS is seeking Laboratory Assistants for our metallurgical services business in Burnie, Tasmania.  Successful applicants will become part of its busy metallurgy testing laboratories that strives to exceed customer expectations by delivering quality results on time, and by maintaining strong relationships with its clients.

Initially, these would be casual positions with a view to permanent employment after a period of service and successful performance. Rostered hours are primarily day shift weekdays but may require afternoon shift or night shift at times. These are not FIFO mine site positions.

The day to day

  • Supporting the Area Supervisor, you will assist in performing laboratory bench testwork procedures.
  • Following procedures and instruction to complete test work to a high safety standard.
  • Accurate record keeping, capturing and processing control samples.
  • Maintaining a high standard of housekeeping in the workplace.
  • Assist in construction of Pilot plants (for those with mechanical aptitude).

The essentials

These are physically demanding positions that require applicants to be physically fit, have access to reliable transportation and be able to work day or afternoon shift as required.

Applicants with previous experience in similar laboratory or mine site roles will be highly regarded, however, training will be provided for successful applicants with no experience.

Suitable candidates for this role must have:

  • English literacy, numeracy, and basic computer skills.
  • Good interpersonal communication skills with the ability to follow instructions.
  • Attention to detail with an understanding of time management and organisation.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Alignment to ALS core values and culture.
