Analyst G3
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Analyst - Grade 3 to join the Inorganics department at ALS. This role is ideally suited to a candidate with a strong background in chemistry and hands-on laboratory experience, who is keen to apply their technical skills within a high-quality analytical environment.
As an Analyst Grade 3, you will be responsible for the chemical analysis of environmental samples using a range of inorganic methods, ensuring all work is completed to defined timescales, quality standards and regulatory requirements.
Hours Per Week: 37
Days Per Week: Friday to Tuesday (08:00 - 16:00). Due to emergency cover requirements for one of our major clients, the successful candidate will be expected to work on bank holidays that fall on a Monday and be on standby for other key bank holidays, including Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Day.
Contract: Full Time and Permanent
Salary: £25,242 per annum
The Day to Day
- Carry out routine and non-routine chemical analysis of samples in accordance with approved analytical methods.
- Apply a strong understanding of chemical principles and laboratory techniques to ensure accurate and reliable results.
- Understand and meet customer requirements through timely, high-quality analytical delivery.
- Ensure samples are processed efficiently, adhering to all laboratory procedures, quality standards and relevant legislation.
- Deliver against key performance indicators within a fast-paced laboratory environment.
- Accurately record, interpret and report analytical data in line with quality management systems.
- Troubleshoot laboratory equipment, perform daily preventative maintenance, and support the resolution of technical issues.
- Investigate and report non-conforming work (NCW) within the QMS, assigning appropriate priority.
- Support and assist colleagues to meet work objectives, including training team members in laboratory methods and best practice.
- Proactively ensure full compliance with Health and Safety policies, maintaining a safe and well-organised laboratory environment.
The Essentials
- 5 GCSEs at Grade C (or new Grade 4) or above, including Science, Maths and English.
- A Level or equivalent qualification in a scientific subject, with chemistry highly desirable.
- Previous laboratory experience, particularly within a chemical or analytical laboratory, is highly beneficial.
- Strong interest in chemistry and laboratory-based analytical work.
- Customer-focused with excellent communication skills.
- Ability to deliver clear, instructional training to colleagues.
- Solution-focused with strong problem-solving skills.
- Computer literate with experience of laboratory systems or data entry.
- Excellent collaborator who works well within a technical team.
- Methodical, well organised and able to manage workloads effectively.
- Meticulous attention to detail, with the ability to maintain accurate and auditable laboratory records.
